Artist Biography
I graduated from American River Junior College in 1972 where I received my A.A. While there, I received an award for my painting ability. Upon completing my studies at A.R.J.C., I entered Sacramento State University's art program where I earned my B.A. in 1975. I have studied under well-known artists such as Joseph Raffael for advanced drawing and Oliver Jackson for figure study. I was also exposed to the teachings of visiting artists Ralph Goings and Mel Ramos. These instructors have greatly influenced my work.
Artist Statement
I combine the elements of abstraction and realism to create unique and unusual pictorial forms. My studies of Kurt Schwitters, Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, and especially Joseph Cornell has had a profound affect on my work. I enjoy spending time interrelating multiple images and color in an effort to heighten the elements as portrayed in everyday society not unlike Andy Warhol.
Surrealism has also played a role in the way I arrange my compositions. In addition to painting, I enjoy creating works of collage and assemblage where I incorporate all the elements and principles of design.
